§ 101-4. Removal of parked or abandoned vehicles.

  • When any vehicle is parked or abandoned or found unattended on any highway or public place within the Village of Lake Success during a snowstorm, flood, fire or other public emergency affecting such highway or public place, or which vehicle constitutes an obstruction to traffic, or where stopping, standing or parking is prohibited, said vehicle may be removed by order of the Lake Success Police Department and shall be removed and stored in such place and by such commercial towing garage as may, from time to time, be designated by the Board of Trustees. Such removal and storage shall be at the expense of the owner of said vehicle, and such owner or person in charge of the vehicle may redeem same upon payment to the designated garage of the full cost of removal and storage, the rates for which shall be uniform and shall be approved, from time to time, by the Board of Trustees. The Lake Success Police Department shall endeavor to ascertain the owner of each such vehicle removed from the Village and shall notify him of the removal and disposition of his vehicle and the amount of the charges which will be required to redeem same. None of the foregoing provisions shall be considered to interfere with the sale of unclaimed vehicles pursuant to other provisions of law.
